Brandon Mastromartino
Dr. Brandon Mastromartino is a Professor and Director of the Institute on Sports Wagering & Gaming at San Diego State University. Brandon’s research focuses on the psychology of sports fans, the intersection of sports fandom and sports betting, and the development of consumer insights that inform strategies for sport organizations, corporate partners, gaming operators, and regulatory bodies. Leveraging theories from behavioral sciences, social economics, digital marketing, and consumer psychology, his work explores regulatory frameworks, policy development, and responsible marketing practices within sports wagering, aiming to help operators maximize profitability while protecting consumers. He has published over 30 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters and serves on the editorial boards of several academic publications, including the International Journal of Sports Marketing and Sponsorship, and Sport Marketing Quarterly.
Outside of academia, Brandon collaborates with organizations across the sports, gaming, and entertainment industries. In 2024, he was named to Global Gaming Business Magazine's (GGB) 25 People to Watch list for 2025. He specializes in sports betting market strategy, regulation, responsible marketing, and sponsorship measurement, helping gaming operators optimize revenue streams and enhance consumer protection. His collaborations include work with FanDuel, the Atlanta Braves, New York Mets, New York Rangers, Florida Panthers, Los Angeles Football Club, Major League Baseball, and the University of Georgia Athletics. At SDSU, Brandon teaches courses focused on marketing and data driven decision making. Prior to joining SDSU, he taught at the University of Georgia, Southern Methodist University, and the University of North Texas.
