Emra Arkansas, Eastern Band Cherokee and Wolfetown community member has carved a distinguished career in the Indian gaming industry, primarily associated with the Cherokee Tribal Gaming Commission. Since stepping into the role of executive director in 2023, Emra has been instrumental in ensuring gaming compliance within Eastern Cherokee lands. Ms. Arkansas’s responsibilities encompass observing the Gaming Ordinance, the National Indian Gaming Commission, the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, and the Tribal/State Compact, showcasing her deep understanding and commitment to upholding the integrity of Indian gaming on tribal lands. Under her leadership, the Cherokee Tribal Gaming Commission has considered rebranding as part of its strategy to secure its future, demonstrating her forward-thinking approach and dedication to progress. She earned a Bachelor of Science in history and psychology from East Tennessee State University and a Master’s degree in legal studies focusing on federal Indian law from the University of Oklahoma.
Outside of her professional life, Ms. Arkansas is actively involved with civic-minded
organizations such as 7 Moons MTB, a mountain biking program in North Carolina,
reflecting her commitment to community engagement. Driven by a desire to establish a legacy under her administration as Executive Director, Ms. Arkansas aims to make a
meaningful difference in the communities she serves.
