Ian Shavitz
Ian Shavitz leads Lippes Mathias' Environment and Energy Practice Team, and is a member of the Firm’s Indian Law Practice. Ian has more than 25 years of experience counseling and advocating for clients on environmental and land use issues associated with developing large-scale infrastructure, energy, and commercial projects; securing governmental permits and approvals; and advising on environmental issues associated with corporate, real estate and energy transactions.
Ian also has extensive experience representing and advising Tribes on virtually every major federal environmental law that affects Tribes, trust lands, and Tribal economic development projects. He advises his Tribal clients on development of gaming, energy, infrastructure, transportation, flood control, and other economic development projects on Indian lands; leasing of Indian lands under the HEARTH Act; the environmental aspects of land-to-trust conveyances; completing federal and Tribal environmental review requirements; and securing federal environmental permits and approvals.
