Jon Greendeer

President, Ho-Chunk Nation of Wisconsin

Jon Greendeer (Mąąšųsga) received his Associates Degree from UW-Marathon County in 2001 and his Bachelors in Political Sciences from UW-Stevens Point. Upon completion, he began working for the Ho-Chunk Nation as their Executive Administrative Officer, a Certified Mediator and then went on to serve the Ho-Chunk people as their President from 2011-2015. Shortly after, he was appointed as the Executive Director of Heritage Preservation overseeing Enrollment, Language, and Cultural Resources He went on to serve as the Health and Wellness Coordinator integrating traditional language, culture, and indigenous food systems to base diabetes and obesity prevention into the lifestyles of indigenous communities. Jon was elected in the Spring of 2023 on a short write-in campaign and is now serving his second term as President of the Ho-Chunk Nation. Jon is an avid solo hiker exploring mountains in complete solitude and also spends quality time as a woodworker, musician, traditional hide tanner, and a cultural educator.
