Justin Tarbell
I am an enrolled member of the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe in upstate NY. For three generations, my family has been in the convenience store industry; starting with my grandmother back in 1953. I have been working for my family business for 28 years where I have gained a wealth of knowledge and experience, but still learning more everyday.
Today, our family businesses have 3 Divisions: Retail, Tobacco, and Petroleum - all flocused on the Native American market.
Our Retail businesses include 2 Bear's Den C-Stores, 3 Quick Serve Restaurant's (QSR'S) including Tim Hortons and Papa Johns, a 20,000 sq ft health club, and 2 cell phone towers.
Our tobacco division includes a wholesale company where we sell to other Tribes in NYS. In 2006, we began manufacturing our own tobacco products as Ohserase Manufacturing and sell our brands to Tribes from coast to coast. Our flagship brand, SIGNAL, is the #1 selling All Natural Native Made cigarette in the country.
Our petroleum division provides safe, on-time deliveries of cost effective fuels to many Tribal C-stores across NYS. We are expanding this business in 2025 to serve other Tribes outside of NY.
I have served as the President of the Akwesasne Convenience Store Association for many years. This position allowed me to undertand a wider range of C-store operations, have a meaningful relationship with our Tribal Council, and defend our sovereignty regarding State taxation issues.
In 2014, I was awarded a "40 Under 40" award from NCAIED for my contributions in Indian Country.
I am happily married to my amazing wife, Laura, and have 2 sets of twins; 3 if you count our twin dogs ;)
Today, I serve our family company as the EVP of Strategy and Business Development.
